Is Israel Safe to Visit?

Absolutely! Over 2 million tourists visit Israel annually, with more than 90 airlines connecting the country to the world. This wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t safe. In fact, visiting Israel is statistically safer than visiting any large metropolitan city in the United States.

As with any destination, exercise the usual tourist precautions. Keep your personal belongings secure, use your hotel’s safe deposit box, and be extra cautious in crowded areas like markets. Whenever possible, travel in groups and stay accompanied.

Indeed, it is! Israelis love to have fun, and the cities are well-lit with major restaurants staying open late. Tel Aviv, one of Israel’s biggest cities, is even known as the “all-night” city. Jerusalem, too, looks stunning at night, with its lit-up, glowing monuments.

For summer, pack breathable T-shirts, sleeveless tops, shorts, and a swimsuit. Bring a sweater or jacket for nights in the highlands or desert. For winter, bring long-sleeved shirts, sweaters, a scarf, gloves, a heavy coat, a raincoat, and an umbrella.

Since Israel-guided tours often involve walking, pack comfortable shoes and sun protection like a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. A bag for carrying essentials is also helpful.

Keep in mind that some religious sites require modest attire. Men should wear long pants, while women should wear clothes that cover their shoulders and knees.

How Can You Get Around Israel?

Our scheduled itineraries include all transportation, such as transfers on arrival and departure. For solo travelers, Israel has a great network of highways, buses, trains, and domestic flights.

Buses are the most common transportation mode, with tickets available at major city bus terminals or directly from the driver. Most buses don’t run on Saturdays (Shabbat).

Train travel is convenient between major cities, but trains also don’t run on Saturdays (Shabbat). Check the Israel Railways website for timetables and rates. An app named “Hop on” is used to pay onboard.

Private taxis can be hailed or called for transport within or between cities, albeit more expensive. Use an app called “Gett” to book taxis.

Car rentals are available from international and local firms in major cities and at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport. Plan ahead to secure a rental.

For added convenience, consider hiring a private tour guide with local knowledge.
